What goes on here :
Images of a calm bay from which huge, sheer limestone cliffs rising vertically out of the ocean. So strange are these unlikely shapes that we can hardly imagine the forces of creation that sculpted them throughout the years. Somehow trees and other foliage plants have managed to take root on these rocky outcrops. The beach on James Bond Island, like many of the beaches on the Phang Nga is covered in shells rather than sand. In the eye of tourism, this magical bay is a windfall and is one of the most popular trip for Krabi visitors. A stop at this stilt village allows for a look at the villagers’ activities. From a floating jetty, wooden stairs lead up to the small community living on a small flat island of approximately one rai, Koh Panyi is the location of a Thai-Muslim fishing village of about 500 households including a school for the local children. A picturesque village built on stilts in the sea with wooden bridges connecting the houses. Most of the Muslim folks earn a living from fishing and selling souvenirs and food to the tourists. The unique culture of the villagers has persisted, cut off as it is from the mainland and most modern development. |
